Look good in neon? No Kings needs you!
Larry Shushansky likes a challenge, and he’s certainly going to get one on March 28, when tens of thousands of determined people head for the Rhode Island State House to save democracy at No Kings 3.
Shushansky, 74, is organizing the army of volunteers who will keep the gathering safe and effective, charged with getting the demonstrators safely from Point A to Point B and taking care of any problems that crop up.
The Lincoln resident has been working for months to find and train the people he will need to create a battalion of volunteers in neon vests who can handle anything from a sprained ankle to a lost child.
With the March 28 crowd potentially topping 50,000, it’s a big undertaking.
Shushansky estimates he will need about 200 volunteers for the rally and march, including people to serve as marshals, peacekeepers and medics.
He’s organizing trainings for all three groups, and says while the medics (including doctors, nurses and emergency personnel) need experience in their field, techniques of non-violence, safety and peacekeeping can be taught to novices in one or more in-person workshops.
He says he’s been gobsmacked by the “amount of cooperation and caring” he’s seeing among people from all over the region who are meeting each other for the first time.
And he can’t imagine a better way to spend his time.
It is essential, he says, that we “resist and replace the current regime in power.” Patriotic Americans must join together to “build a coalition stronger than our current government.”
If we don’t, he fears, “autocracy and greed [will] rule America.”

| The Volunteer Committee wants to train about 200 volunteers for March 28, which could attract more than 50,000 people. We’ll need people to serve as marshals, peacekeepers and medics.
Trainings for all three groups are scheduled for March 21st (a week before the march) from 1:30-4 pm at the Bell Street Chapel in Providence.
